Randy grew up in the San Francisco Bay Area and has always loved being on the water. In his early days, he enjoyed speedboats, houseboats and jet skis on the SF Bay and nearby delta and lakes. In 2003, a friend was a member of Club Nautique and told him he should check it out. Randy found the quality of the sail and powerboats was excellent and they even had great instruction! So he joined and successfully completed all the powerboat courses including CoNav and Coastal Powerboat Cruising, and regularly chartered all of the powerboats with his friends and family. It was so fun, in 2006 he purchased a 44’ twin Navigator pilothouse trawler he still enjoys today.

Randy’s experience as a private pilot helps him appreciate the many similarities of the two activities. They include knowledge of weather, navigation, radar, engines, radio communications, regulations, and a strong focus on safety, planning and good judgment. And, they also have the camaraderie, tasty food destinations, and a combination of relaxing and exhilarating adventures with all of the sensations of day and night operations in all weather conditions.

As a lifelong learner, Randy obtained his USCG 100-ton masters license to further enhance his boating skills and knowledge. A Club Nautique instructor suggested he teach powerboating. Randy thought it was a fabulous idea to allow him to share his passion of boating and safety with others. He feels it’s very important to be well trained and to be confident while in command of a vessel. Like many things in life, Randy says “you learn from doing… practice with gradual progression to the next level – pretty soon, you’ll be heading out the Golden Gate!”

Randy’s primary career is in finance and real estate development. He also has a passion for leadership and organizational development, video production, music, travel, racing, and web development.
