From the age of 8 Steve Ingram knew that his life’s passion would include being on the water. In pursuit of this, he has accumulated more time sailing and powerboating than most people spend in commute traffic in their lifetimes! Early on he began sailing on El Toros, Sunfish and Lasers. His love of sailing taught him the responsibilities of boat ownership and at the age of 18 bought his first keelboat, a Ranger 23′.
Steve began sailing on the Great Salt Lake in Utah. The junior sailing program there was active and the challenging conditions of the big lake taught him to respect the wind and water in an extreme environment. Enhancing his boating interests, he served for 10 years on the Governor’s Boating Advisory Council and 15 years in the Coast Guard Auxiliary. In 1996 Steve earned his USCG Master’s license and formed a company that offered sailing and boating instruction as well as commercial tour boat operations on the Great Salt Lake.
In addition to teaching at Club Nautique, Steve works as vessel captain for a charter boat company out of Sausalito. This provides him unique insight and skills to the powerboat instruction courses and still leaves him time to teach the sailing courses where his true passion lies. Steve still owns the same Ranger 33′ he bought in 1985 and sails regularly on the Bay waters.
